Theresa Mary Martin

“Terie” was born in Kingsford on Nov. 13, 1941, to George and Theresa Kanyuh and was the youngest of their ten children.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, George and James Kanyuh; four sisters, Dorothy LaRoux, Gladys Baldukas, Bettie Pipp and Luella Ducharme.

She is survived by brothers, Kenneth and Robert Kanyuh; and sister, Patricia Macha Sweet.

The family moved to Norway in 1945, where she attended school and lived until 1955.

They then moved to Illinois. Terie graduated from Morton East in Cicero, Ill., Class of 1959.

She relocated to Phoenix after graduation to live with her oldest sister, Dorothy. There she met and married her husband of 58 years, Michael Martin. Together they raised four children.

After retirement, they maintained a summer home in Iron Mountain to be near her childhood family and wintered in Phoenix closer to her children and grandchildren.

She can be remembered for never missing a bingo night with her sister Bette Pipp, and for always being the best dressed in any setting. Her favorite pastime was reading. She loved playing cards and caring for her little fur baby, Mitzi.

Terie is further survived by husband, Michael; two sons, Michael and Patrick Martin of California; daughter, Theresa Martin of California; and daughter, Georgene (Mike Cunningham) of Arizona; four grandsons, Jay (Sierra) Rucinski of Montana, Michael, Phillip and John Martin of California; three granddaughters, Zeina (Ryan) ReinBoldt and Basmah Asseiri of Arizona and Tressa Martin of California; and two great-grandsons, Elliot and Levi Rucinski of Montana.
