MESA, Ariz. — Virginia Mae Gard, 86, known to her friends and family as “Mae,” passed away peacefully on Dec. 20, 2018, in Mesa.

Mae was born in Michigan at the family home on Gilbert Lake in Crystal Falls Township in 1932. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Casagranda) Alexa.

Mae was a graduate of Crystal Falls High School. She attended TWA Flight Attendant School in Kansas City, Mo., in 1955. She flew all over the world, personally attending to such famous persons as Mrs. John F. Kennedy. Mae’s longest career was as a top-selling real estate agent in Mesa.

Mae was an adventurous and independent spirit, excelling as a golfer, artist, and musician. She once caddied for Bob Hope at a Phoenix Open. She touched many lives and made many friends during her long, full life.

Mae is survived by her three siblings, Mary Lou Schreiner of Crystal Falls, Roman David “Bimbo” (Janet) Alexa of Iron River, and James (Mary Ann) Alexa of Shorewood, Ill.

She also leaves behind her friends, Carolyn Denton and Pat Pollum of Mesa; and many other friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
