Alison G. Furlow

Kingsford — Alison G. Furlow, 91, of Kingsford, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at ManorCare Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kingsford.

She was born Jan. 6, 1928, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Daniel and Evelyn (Browning) Goodman.

Alison was a lifetime resident of Iron Mountain and a graduate of Iron Mountain High School, class of 1946. She went on to receive her BA degree from Carleton College and an MA degree in education from Northern Michigan University. Alison was honored to be elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society from Carleton College in Northfield, Minn.

From 1964 until 1989, Alison taught English in the Iron Mountain Public School System. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, Friends of the Library, and the Michigan Education Association.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Furlow (Larry McCann) of Edina, Minn. and Barbara Furlow of Rochester, Minn.; six grandchildren, Paul Furlow (Jennie Keller), Stephanie (Furlow) Scholz (Jon Scholz), Thomas and Peter McCann, and Nathan and MaryJo Ekhoff; one niece, Jane Juchemich and her children/grandchildren; two nephews, Bill Kauper (Patty) and Dan Kauper (Jan Manthey); one daughter-in-law, Laurie Furlow; and two great-grandchildren, Will Furlow and Scotland Scholz.

In addition to her parents, Alison was preceded in death by one son, Scott Furlow; and one sister, Helen Ruth Kauper. Her family smiles to think of her joy at being reunited with them.

A visitation and memorial service will be held in Iron Mountain, details to be announced at a later date.

In accordance with Alison’s wishes, memorials may be made in her name to the Iron Mountain High School General Scholarship Fund.
