Donnell “Don” Wayne Carlson (1927-2019)

IRON MOUNTAIN — Donnell Wayne Carlson, husband, father, friend, and longtime resident of Dallas, died on July 14, 2019. He was 91.

Don was born to Theodore and Alice (Erickson) Carlson on Sept. 4, 1927, in Iron Mountain, Michigan. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in May 1945. Don served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946.

Don used the GI Bill to earn a degree in Business Administration at the University of Denver.

In 1953, FMC hired Don as a salesman. At FMC, he worked in Kansas City, Chicago and Dallas, advancing from salesman to national account executive. Don worked in food packaging sales until the 1990s.

While living in Kansas City he met Eris “Jeri” Dunton. On June 25, 1960, Don and Eris were married. He was blessed with the birth of three children — Erik, Carol and Mark.

In 1973, Don moved his family to Dallas. After five decades of work he retired.

Don loved his family and was devoted to them throughout his life. He was a Christian and a member of the First Presbyterian and Preston Hollow Presbyterian churches.

His family is thankful to God for the gift of a loving husband and father. He will be missed greatly by family and friends.

Don W. Carlson is survived by his wife, Eris; his children, Erik, Carol (Bryan) and Mark (Andrea); and a niece, Karyn Bartolac (Bruce) of Niagara, Wis.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Russell; and a nephew, Greg Carlson.
