Donald "Archie" Carey

SALINE, Mich. — Donald “Archie” Carey, 95, of Saline, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019, with his wife Jean and daughter, Sandy by his side. He had a long and beautiful life and he was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place.

A Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church: 2250 E. Stadium Drive, Ann Arbor, MI.

Donald was born and raised in Channing; after marring his wife Jean they raised their children there and then moved to Green Bay, Wis., for 12 years, they then moved to Ann Arbor in 1993 to be closer to their children and grandchildren where Donald lived out the rest of his life.

Donald was a proud World War II veteran and was honorably discharged from the United States Navy as a sonarman second class USNR in February 1946. Donald worked for the Milwaukee Railroad, retiring in 1985 after several years of service.

Donald enjoyed bowling and often had scores in the high 200’s he also enjoyed golfing. He was a devoted Packers fan and a very faithful Catholic. He shared his faith as a gentle, caring man who was always ready to help his friends and neighbors with his hammer and nails.

A son, Jeff Carey; daughter, Candace Carey; brother, Arthur Carey; sister-in-law, Ruth Carey; and mother and father, Agnes and George Carey preceded him in death.

Donald is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jean Carey; daughter, Sandra (Jeff) Knight; son-in-law, Rick (Debra) Johnson; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Gerry Cambray; grandchildren, Jesse, Jeremy, Amanda, Carey, Adam, Don and Stephanie; great-grandchildren, Josey, Chloe, Oliver and Sebastian.
