FOSTER CITY — Alcid D. Mattson, 72, of Foster City, passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, at his home following complications from cancer.

He was born on Sept. 5, 1947, in Iron Mountain, son of the late William “Bill” and Lillian (Dixon) Mattson. Alcid grew up in Felch and graduated from Felch High School. He married Anita (Beauchamp) on Sept. 25, 1971, in Foster City. He worked in the trucking and mechanical business all of his life. Out of high school, Alcid first worked for Champion, Inc. where he drove the cement truck and also drove all over the country. He then went to work for the Groveland Mine where he drove Euclid “Yukes” trucks and was a mechanic until it’s closing.

Alcid and his wife Anita owned and operated the Mill Town Inn in Foster City from 1996 until they retired in 2013.

For the past 10 years, he worked for a wonderful boss and friend, Steve Zahn at Superior Specialized Carriers. During the last seven years, he had the opportunity to work with his wife and best friend of 48 years by his side. Al referred to the last 10 years of his career as his dream job as it brought them to almost every state in the country.

Alcid volunteered for the Nordic Ambulance Service as an EMT and the Felch Fire Department, where he served as fire chief for many years. He was a lifelong mechanic and a jack of all trades. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and especially the time he spent with his two grandsons, Jacob and Jason Rehn and his many nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Anita; one daughter, Nicole Rae (Bruce) Rehn, Norway; one brother, John (Kathy) Mattson, Iron Mountain; one sister, Lynn Olson, lower Michigan; two grandchildren, Jacob and Jason Rehn; numerous special nieces and nephews; three brothers-in-law, Mick (Barbara) Beauchamp, Hardwood; Tim (Jody) Beauchamp, Hardwood; and Todd (Heather) Beauchamp, Escanaba; six sisters-in-law April (Pete) Wonders, Iron Mountain; Nancy (Jim) Urbany, Iron Mountain; Diane Parolini, Hamilton Lakes; Terri (Terry) Lindeman, Iron Mountain, Wanda Beauchamp, Hardwood, Traci (Kevin) Johnson, Hardwood; many special nieces and nephews; many loving cousins and friends; and his best longtime friends, Steve and Bonnie Dennocenzo of Hardwood.

In addition to his parents and his son, Jerry Mattson, Alcid was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leslie and Janet (Cory) Beauchamp.
