IRON RIVER — Mavis D. Goodman, 93, of Iron River, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019, at the Iron River Care Center.

She was born on Oct. 19, 1926, in Iron River, the daughter of the late Nels and Armena (Kinney) Johnson. She attended the Iron River Schools.

Mavis married Gerald “Sonny” Goodman in 1942 and the couple celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1992. Gerald preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 2002.

She was employed as a lab technician at the Iron River Hospital for over 10 years. Mavis was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Iron River, the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 410, the Red Hat Society, and VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She also enjoyed quilting.

Mavis is survived by her sons, James “Jim” (Carol) Goodman of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Dean (Lois) Goodman of Iron River; daughter, Sandy Melchiori of Iron River; five grandchildren, Debbi and Jason Goodman, David and Dana Melchiori, and Elizabeth Mace; three step-grandchildren, Mark and David Mecklenburg, and Michelle Jurkonie; 15 great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mavis was preceded in death by her brother, Theodore “Bud” Johnson; and a grandson, Allan Goodman.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec 7 at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Avery Carr to officiate.
