IRON MOUNTAIN — Norma Capra LaChapelle, 87, of Iron Mountain passed away on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019, at Freeman Nursing & Rehabilitation Community in Kingsford.

Norma was born on Dec 22, 1931, the daughter of the late John and Signe (Blomquist) Nygard. She attended Kingsford schools and lived most of her life in the Iron Mountain area.

In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her first husband, Philip Capra; one brother; and two sisters.

On Nov. 6, 1982, Norma married Jack LaChapelle in a private family ceremony and began a new chapter of her life.

Norma enjoyed singing in the church choir, playing the piano at home, hosting dinner parties for friends and family, and was a wonderful cook. Her constant joy was the love of her pups, of which she had many over the years. Daily devotional readings with Jack gave her great comfort in later life.

Norma is survived by her husband of 37 years, Jack; her three children, Cathy (Capra) Hanson of Port Washington Wis., John (Gail) Capra of Iron Mountain, Dan (Mary) Capra of Centerville Minn.; eight grandchildren, Mark (Diana) Pasten, Natalie (Judd) White, Carlo (Tera) Capra, Casey (Robert) Pirkola, Claire Capra, Nathan Capra, Matthew (Bre) Capra, and Philip Capra; and five great-grandchildren.

She is additionally survived by nine step-children, including Rene LaChapelle, Linette (John) Hiller, both of Iron Mountain.

Also surviving are many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Memorial services will follow at 1 p.m. at the church. Rev. Paul Strom will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.
