GAASTRA — Emelie J. Gagnea, 80, of Gaastra, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital.

She was born on April 18, 1939, in Gaastra, the daughter of the late John “Jack” and Luella (Battye) Applin. She attended Stambaugh Schools and graduated with the Class of 1957.

Emelie married Odean Gagnea on Sept. 27, 1958, and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. After 44 wonderful years together, Odean preceded her in death in 2003.

Emelie worked as an EMT for over 25 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Iron River and the American Legion Reino Post 21 Auxiliary. Emelie spent her life helping people and felt veteran support was very important. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts and spending quality time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Emelie is survived by her son, Steven Gagnea of Iron River; daughters, Beth (Kurt) Sheldon of Gaastra, and Kim (J.D.) Flood of Iron River; grandchildren, Andy, Jeff and Deana Cronkright, Katelynn and Kali Jo Flood, Pam Stolberg, Ashley, Emily, Zachary and Joshua Gagnea, and Micah and Lucas Bragg; great-grandchildren, Aiden and Chase Cronkright; and by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Marvin and George Applin; and sisters, Charlotte Allen, Corrine Boutell, Marion Carlson and Merle Spicer.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18 at the First Presbyterian Church of Iron River.

Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Dawn Robbins to officiate.

Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery in the spring.
