William Lysell

KINGSFORD — William A. Lysell, 81, of Kingsford passed away Monday, March 23, 2020, at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford.

He was born on Oct. 24, 1938 in Kewanee, Ill., son of the late Arvid and Viola Lysell.

Bill was a proud member of the military who enlisted at a very young age and served for several years as a medic. He often spoke of his time in the service, telling many stories… almost daily.

His many years in the service led him to his future job at the VA Hospital as a licensed practical nurse, where he was employed for many years until his retirement. Nursing was like second nature for Bill as he was always wanting to help people.

He was married twice, the second time in 1974 to Marge, and they spent over 40 wonderful years together.

Bill was a very loyal man to his country, to his profession, and then to his marriage.

He showed his love for the service by joining the National Guard, color guard, and attending meetings at the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

His other interests included camping with the family, game night, and trips to the casino. He had a quirky sense of humor and was a notorious BS’er, but you never doubted his love and commitment for the military and his family.

His good nature endeared him to many, and he will be missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by seven children, Troy (Carolyn) and Todd Lysell, both of Indianapolis; Mark Bergeron of Portland, Ore., Scott (Maureen) Bergeron, Kim (Marty) Fox, Brian (Cindy) Bergeron, and Adrian Bergeron Jr., all of Iron Mountain; brothers, Freddy (Thi Von) Allison and Alvin (Cecelia) Allison; sisters, Patricia Clark and Carol (Donald) Scharlow; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Marjorie, Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ellen Gorney and a brother, Daniel Allison.

Private family graveside services with military honors will be held at Channing Cemetery in the spring.
