Don Engstrom

SURPRISE, Ariz. — Don Engstrom passed away peacefully April 14, 2020 in Surprise.

He and his twin brother were born to Dave and Ruth Engstrom on Aug. 11, 1934. Dave worked for the railroad for 51 years and Ruth was a homemaker who dearly loved her boys. Don and Ray attended school in Norway and graduated in 1951.

At the age of 17, both moved to Racine, where Don was a draftsman for the Oster Company and where he met his first wife, Kay. Both Don and Kay enjoyed traveling, golfing and spending time with their 14 nieces and nephews. Don would always listen, laughing at the goofy stories, engaging them with his own stories.

A true Engstrom/Radke niece or nephew will almost always tell the story of how their Uncle Don could pull his thumb apart. A magic trick that only he could do.

While living in Racine, Don learned how to fly and along with golfing became his passions.

In 2000, Don and Kay retired in Surprise, where they golfed and entertained friends and family. After 46 years Kay passed away.

Within a year, Don met and married Shirley and they were married for 15 years.

Don is survived by his wife, Shirley; twin brother, Ray and countless Engstrom/Radke nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; Shirley’s daughters and grandchildren whom he considered his own.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Children’s Leukemia Research Association would be appreciated.
