Sharon L. Giannunzio

KINGSFORD — Sharon L. Giannunzio, 73, of Kingsford passed away peacefully to be with her loving Lord and Savior after a brief illness with her family by her side.

She was born on August 1, 1946, in Iron Mountain to the late Frank L. and Betty (Farley) Mortl. She graduated from Kingsford High School in 1964.

Sharon married David Giannunzio on March 4, 1972, and spent nearly 50 wonderful years together. Together they loved working as foster parents for 45 years.

She was the most wonderful wife, mother, grandma, sister and aunt. She was truly one of a kind. Sharon was the most amazing, loving, and kind person. We were blessed to have her all these years.

Sharon will always be remembered for her loving heart and opening her home to those in need. She touched the lives of all who knew her with her kind listening ear, compassion, and gracious hospitality. Her home was always filled with life from friends and family, from summer cookouts to card games with friends.

Sharon had the most beautiful singing voice that could fill the church on a Sunday service. Listening to her sing “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art” would make a tear come to your eye. She also would fill the room with her beautiful voice when she accompanied with her omnichord.

She was an amazing seamstress, a creative crafter, an avid lucky Bingo player, as well as a wonderful cook. Her love and compassion went hand and hand with all her interests.

Sharon is survived by her children, Lisa (Rudy) Vassar of Florence, Wis. and Diane Lange of Iron Mountain; grandchildren, DoriAnne (Matthew) Brooks, Andrew (Megan) Vassar, Savannah Vassar, and Stephanie (Alex) Hiatt; great-grandchildren, MaciMae, EmmiLyn, McKinley, Owen, Brock, and Brookelynn; brothers, Frank (Anne) Mortl, Mike (Patty) Mortl, James (Kris) Mortl, Mark (Laura) Mortl; her sister, Carole (John) Erickson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald (Cheri) Giannunzio, Robert (Jan) Giannunzio, Jerry (Paula) Giannunzio, and Joseph (Kathy) Giannunzio; and many special nieces and nephews, as well as many special foster children that still remained in close contact with her.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Dave, and her parents.

A private family memorial service will be held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Matt Ruesch officiating.
