PEMBINE, Wis. — Steve J. Firkell, 86, of Pembine, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday April 2, 2020. He was born in Milwaukee on Sept. 9, 1933, son of the late Stephen and Mary (Wirtz) Firkell. Steve was united in marriage to Diane Kressin in Milwaukee. He worked as a baker in Milwaukee County for 20 years. In 1974, Steve and Diane moved to Pembine and he worked at the Niagara Paper Mill until retirement. He was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church and enjoyed working at the Church as well as providing pastoral ministry at Dickinson County Hospital. Steve is survived by his loving wife, Diane; four children, Paul Firkell, Mary (Wade) DeVerney, Anthony (Michelle) Firkell, and Therese (David) Jakups; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Mike; and his brother, Fred. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2020 at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Pembine with visitation starting at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Pembine Cemetery. Due to Covid-19, masks and social distancing will be required at the church. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Karen’s Food Pantry.
