KINGSFORD — Leslie George Gering Jr., 80, of Kingsford, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020, at the Oscar G. Johnson V.A. Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
Les was born Feb. 22, 1940, in Oconto, Wis., the son of Leslie Sr. and Muriel (Frewerd) Gering. He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1958 and married Rosemary Yaggie in 1963 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. He served in the U.S. Army and worked as a diesel mechanic at Michaud Trucking, a shop supervisor at Gunville Trucking, and a parts manager at Cummins Diesel for over 18 years.
Les was a member of the American Legion, the Masons, and the NRA. He was an avid Green Bay Packers and Kingsford Flivvers fan, and he enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
He is survived by three children, Lori (Steve) Servia of Kingsford, Jim (Donna) Gering of Ironwood, and Keith (Jessica) Gering of Green Bay, Wis.; a sister, Bev Gregg of Menominee; 10 grandchildren, Megan (Russell) Scott, Erika (Dale) Clements, Kyle (Bre) Pirlot, Ethan Servia, Michael Gering (Haley), Jessica Gering (fiance Derrick), Ali Gering, Connor Gering, Brayden Gering and Lily Gering; six great-grandchildren, Hailey, Katelynn, Wyett, Cassidey, Charlotte and Ellouise; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Les was preceded in death by his wife, Rose, in 1997 and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ray and Mary Yaggie.
