George H. Cross

KINGSFORD — George H. Cross, 81, of Kingsford passed away Friday, Oct. 30, 2020, at the Oscar G. Johnson V.A. Medical Center in Iron Mountain.

George was born Dec. 24, 1938, in Rockingham, N.C., son of the late George and Abbie (McDonald) Cross. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country for 17 years and was also a Vietnam War Veteran.

George married Marie T. Giuliani of Vulcan on Nov. 18, 1965. After serving as the Army recruiter in Iron Mountain, George left the military and later founded Tri-City Alarms in Portsmouth, Va., retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3674 in Iron Mountain. George was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and playing pool with his sons and watching his grandkids in athletics.

He is survived by five children, James Cross of Portsmouth, Va., Debbie (Wes) Copeland of Portsmouth, Keith (Rhonda) Cross of Quinnesec, Mike (Tina) Cross of Iron Mountain and Terri (Tim) Bartels of Kingsford: a brother, James (Shirley) Cross of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Judy (Warren) Holt of Omaha, Nebraska, Silvia (Shad) Morris of Denton, N.C., and Carol Jones of Virginia. He also leaves grandchildren James, Josh, Nicole, Jesse, Matthew, Jennifer, Paul, Chris, Troy, Travis, Tyler, Brittany, Michael, Samantha, Elizabeth, Adam and Amanda, and great grandchildren James Justice, Katie, Charlotte, Theo, Noah, Jonah, Zoey, Brayden, Kaylee, Weston and Brantley. In addition, he leaves many wonderful nieces and nephews and amazing friends from his apartment complex to include his special friend Sue Miller.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Rose Marie Cross; and two sisters, Rosie Chinn and Linda Culpepper.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 will conduct military honors at the conclusion of the visitation.
