Beverly Pfeiffer

Bev was born Dec. 7, 1943, in Flint, Mich., to the late Martha and Earle Chiles Sr. She was the youngest of two children (one preceded her in death) and has two younger half-brothers. Bev spent her childhood between their Flint home and her grandmother’s farm in Engadine, which offered enjoyable hard work, slow pace, and wide-open spaces.

Bev married Francis (Butch) Pfeiffer in 1963 and together had four children. The family moved to the Loretto/Hamilton Lakes area in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula in 1972 where they remained through 1992 with the final move to Quinnesec, where she resided. Early on, Bev was an active member of St. Barbara Catholic Church in Vulcan, and then with American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford, for the last 28 years.

When health no longer allowed for active participation in church Bev took great pride in finding ways to contribute in more private and personal ways, such as providing Father Joe with pies throughout the year, making large quantities of food for funeral dinners, and praying for those on the Prayer Chain.

Primarily a stay-at-home mom, Bev took great pride in raising her family by the Golden Rule and with a healthy dose of discipline when needed. Her family will remember her as an amazing cook, protector and the glue that held them all together, often for extended periods of time as Butch would travel for duties with the National Guard or to find available work outside the area. She developed a vast network of friends of all social standings by simply being aware of those in need or overlooked.

Bev volunteered prolifically; through church Altar Society, ecumenical minister, reader… coordinating countless church sponsored rummage sales as well as with Holy Spirit Central Catholic School. She was tireless as a Cub Scout den leader as well as working for a friend at Giuliani’s Greenhouse during spring, summer, and winter, as creatively arranging flowers and wreaths was a true skill and passion.

She found deep significance and inspiration in the symbolism of the Cardinal as it represents devotion, loyalty, loving relationships and of course Angels. Most recently she received true Joy from seeing all of her grandchildren gather for special events, weekend visits and serious board game/card competitions.

Remaining to cherish Beverly’s memory are her husband, Butch; four children, Allen Pfeiffer (wife Jodi), Michael Pfeiffer (wife Cindy), Stephen Pfeiffer and Wendy Decker-McMillan (husband Steve); 11 grandchildren: Kayla (Mark) Kolbe, Ellary (Jeff) Gallino, Ryan Pfeiffer, Marissa (Steve) DeRoche, Heather (Kevin) Ellis, Faith Pfeiffer, Mitchell Pfeiffer, Arianna Pfeiffer, Christian Pfeiffer, Lydia Decker and Luke Decker; four great-grandchildren: Taylor and Carson Ellis, Aribella DeRoche, and Lyle Hettwer, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

She now joins cherished relatives and friends in Heaven including her Uncle Steve, Aunt Martha, her mother, Martha, brother, Earle, Jim and Idaloo Winehouse, and son-in-law, Paul Decker.

It is now time to rest Mom, you did great, we wouldn’t change a thing. Love always.
