Joan Dove

CRYSTAL FALLS — Joan Susan Dove of Crystal Falls was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and friend. She passed peacefully on Dec. 1, 2020, at age 84.

Joan was born in Iron River to Benjamin and Genevieve Peterson on April 9, 1936. She went to Crystal Falls High School and graduated from Marquette High School. She attended Saint Luke’s Nursing School in Marquette, where she became a registered nurse.

She lovingly cared for many people in the geriatric field in both Flushing, Mich., and Flint, Mich., and later in Crystal Falls at the Crystal Manor. She attended St. Mark’s Church in Crystal Falls with her lifelong friend, Pastor Carolyn Orchard. Joan enjoyed gardening, garage sale-ing, spending time with her family, wintering in sunny Arizona and traveling, especially with her sister, Dianne.

The simple pleasure of life brought great joy to Joan. She loved spending time with her family enjoying a cocktail and playing games. She was known for sharing her signature bean salad at many family and friend events. Her cheerful, positive attitude will be sorely missed.

Joan is survived by her son, Douglas Dove (Cathy Heckaman) of Laingsburg, Mich.; her daughter, Danelle Dove of Crystal Falls; her brother, Ben (Volli) Peterson of South Carolina; her sister, Dianne (Gary) Barnard of Arizona; her grandchildren, Jessica Joan Phillips of Grand Rapids and her grandson, Mackenzie Dove Phillips of Crystal Falls. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews; the father of her children, Ronald Dove of Traverse City, Mich.; and special friend Kenneth Heimerl of Crystal Falls.

Joan is preceded in death by her daughter, Rhonda Dove; and her parents, Benjamin and Genevieve Peterson.

There will be no funeral services at this time. Burial will be in spring/summer of 2021 at Evergreen Cemetery of Crystal Falls.

Memorials may be given to St. Mark’s Church of Crystal Falls or to the Parkinson’s Foundation.

A special thank you to her caregivers Kalie, Teal, Carrie, Brittany, Kaylee, Michelle, Judy and Lindsey, who took such special care of her, allowing her to stay at home in her cottage on Runkle Lake which she loved so much.
