IRON MOUNTAIN -- Michael R. Petrick, 70, crossed over peacefully to be reunited with members of his loving family and fur babies after a valiant fight against COVID-19 and its side effects.
He went peacefully with his wife, Margaret, and immediate family by his side.
Michael was born Jan. 23, 1950, in Milwaukee, to Nathalie Baldrica Petrick and Robert M. Petrick. He was a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain and the surrounding area. Following his graduation from Hermansville High School in June of 1968, Michael worked at various jobs throughout his lifetime. The ones he reminisced about the most were Lodal, where he had worked up the ladder to become a purchasing agent, The Daily News as an advertising representative, Riverside Auto, Northwoods Manufacturing and Bond Decorating with his dear friends, Toni Lori and Bob Haglund. He was their sales representative and thoroughly enjoyed going out talking with people to expand their business.
Michael married his soulmate and best friend, Margaret Hartline Petrick on Dec. 9, 1994, in Iron Mountain.
In 2000, Mike and Margaret became the owners of The Gathering Place Restaurant. This was his dream job. He enjoyed being in charge and able to do any job in the business, but he enjoyed cooking and watching customers enjoy their meals and conversing with everyone. The Gathering Place was truly a family business as the majority of the employees were children, nieces, nephews and close family friends. From 2000 to 2005, many new friends were made and enjoyed discussions over the sourdough bread and meals that were made.
Michael was a very compassionate, loving man who believed in giving back to the community. Throughout his lifetime, he gave back by participating or volunteering time in the Kingsford Lions Club, Downtown Development Authority Association, the Dickinson County Chamber, American Red Cross, Light at the Inn and so many more.
Mike's passion was his volunteer work with the Red Cross Disaster Action Team, which he joined on Oct. 1, 2006. He was proudest of his work as the Disaster Team Leader during the years of 2008 until 2012, when he stepped down as the leader. During his term as the Disaster Team leader, he was awarded the Volunteer of the Year for 2012. He remained active, helping with the blood drives until COVID- 19 prohibited him from participating.
A loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Michael is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Anne of Iron Mountain; daughter, Stephanie (Mark) Martinucci of Gladstone; sons, Steven (Lisa) Petrick and Scion (Pam) Petrick of Quinnesec, and George (Jolie) Cutchins of Sandy, Utah; also grandchildren, Ashley Martinucci, Dustin Martinucci, Nathalie Petrick Dionne, Toni Petrick, Sophie and Steven Petrick, Brianna Petrick, Katrina and Taylor Cutchins; and six dearly loved great-grandchildren; his siblings, Bonnie (Ken) LeGrave, Robert (Shelly) Petrick, Greg (Marge) Petrick, and Jeff (Paula) Petrick. He is also survived by his dear cousin, Bob Baldrica; his two sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Nathalie Baldrica Petrick; his father, Robert Petrick Sr.; his stepmother, Ruth Petrick; his grandson, Scion M. Petrick Jr.; and his three fur babies.
Due to the present COVID-19 restrictions, a private, immediate family service will be held Friday, Dec. 18, at 6 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held sometime in the late spring to the middle of summer. At that time, everyone will be invited to share their memories of Michael and celebrate his life, so watch for the announcement in The Daily News, Facebook or Messenger.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Mi-Wi Chapter of the American Red Cross.
