IRON RIVER — Phillip S. Greig, 82, of Iron River, passed away on Friday, Feb. 12, 2021 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

He was born Sept. 25, 1938, in Iron River, the son of the late Albert and Inez (Olson) Greig. Phillip attended the Iron River Schools, graduating from Iron River High School with the Class of 1956.

He then earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Michigan State University. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving with Patrol Squadron 19, “Big Red.”

Phillip married Carol Johnson on Nov. 26, 1966, at the First Presbyterian Church in Iron River. The couple celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary last year.

He was employed as supervisor of technical services for 10 years at Continental Can Company and was the plant engineer for 24 years at Fort Howard Paper Company. Phillip was a member of the Iron River VFW Ottawa Post 3134, the 56 Club, was president of the Green Bay Engineers Club, and was a former member of the Iron River Elks Lodge1671.

He was also a church elder of Preble Park Presbyterian Church in Green Bay, Wis. Phillip was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Michigan State Spartans. He enjoyed camping, bowling, traveling the world, playing bridge, and was a voracious reader. He also enjoyed spending time at his cottage on Armstrong Lake.

Phillip was a loving son, brother, husband, and father. He is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, Scott Greig, Russell Greig, and Eric Greig, all of Appleton, Wis.; brothers, Lowell Greig of Iron River and Jon (Debbie) Greig of Dallas; sister, Betty Karelse of East Lansing, Mich.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis Johnson of Felch, Evelyn Lacourt, Harold (Diane) Johnson, and Daniel (Mavis) Johnson, all of Foster City; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and David Greig.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
