RANDVILLE — Donald G. Hamby, 68, of Randville, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2021, at his home.
Don was born Feb.15, 1953, in Iron Mountain, the son of Florence (McDonald) Hamby and the late Donald S. Hamby. He graduated from Channing High School in 1971 and was a lifelong resident of the area. Following graduation, Don proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp.
He married Gail Process on Nov. 3, 1973 at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. Don started his career at the Groveland Mine where he worked until the mine closed. He then took a position as a machine operator with Polar Logging where he worked for many years and thoroughly enjoyed his job.
Don was passionate in his love of the outdoors, especially trout fishing. He was very social, and loved spending time being with those he cared for. He was a jack of all trades and could fix just about anything.
Donald is survived by his wife, Gail; two daughters, Melanie Hamby (Doug Matchett) of Kingsford, Jacqui Proudfit (Gary Schinderle) of Iron Mountain; and three grandchildren, Shane Siegler, Brandon Proudfit, and Hannah Proudfit. He is also survived by his mother, Florence; four brothers, Randy (Nancy) Hamby of Anchorage, Alaska, Rodney (Cheryl) Hamby of Iron Mountain, Ronald (Penny) Hamby of Iron Mountain, Dennis Hamby of Randville; one sister, Debbie Miller of Kingsford; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A gathering will be held on Thursday, June 24 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at Don and Gail’s home, W8020 Herzog Rd. in Randville. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 1 p.m. Rev. Michael March will officiate. The Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 will conduct military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Soup Kitchen.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the V.A. Hospital for everything they did for Don.
