Steven Cuggino

NORWAY — Steven Arthur Cuggino, 79, of Norway, passed away Friday, April 23, 2021, at his home in Norway.

He was born on Feb. 11, 1942, in Kingsford, the son of the late Steven and Verne Mae (Kleiber) Cuggino.

Steve enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1959 and served until 1980. After returning to the area, he then worked for the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain for eight years as chief of housekeeping before retiring.

While in the service, he met and married his first wife, Carol Ann Kier, and they had three children together and would later divorce.

He then married and was a loving husband to Johanna Dykstra Lange, with whom he has three stepchildren. They were married for 36 years until his passing.

Steve and Johanna were faithful members of the First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain where he was very proud of being a member of their church choir.

He always had a kind word for whomever he talked with. And was always gracious and appreciative of our holiday family meals and time spent together. He enjoyed coffee clutching at McDonalds and the fellowship of the Norway-Vulcan Senior Center.

Steve is survived by his wife Johanna; daughters, Stephenie (Jim) Golden of Washington and Stacy Thatcher of Fargo, N.D.; stepdaughters Amy Jo DeDecker of Norway and Tina (Rick) Trepanier of Iron Mountain; stepson, Clinton (Amanda) Lange of Clarkdale, Ariz.; grandchildren, Joe (Amber) Lantagne, Patrick (Amber) Lantagne, Michael (Bailey) Lantagne, Matthew (Urssy) Thatcher, Beth Thatcher Carrington, Ryan (Nicole) DeDecker, Phillip (Jenny) DeDecker, Chase (Megan) Freeman and Haley Lange; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Clarice Allen of Norway; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Dave Powell and Elwood Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his son, Cody Cuggino; and brother, Larry Cuggino.

Family will greet friends on Saturday, May 15, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the First Covenant Church with Pastor Chad Harrison officiating.

Interment will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery.
