Larry Dzekute

FENCE, Wis. — Larry Dzekute, 85, of Fence, Wis., passed away Sunday, June 20, 2021, at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.

He was born Feb. 3, 1936, in Goodman, Wis., son of the late Peter and Gladys (Kendzierski) Dzekute. Larry grew up on the family farm and attended school in both Fence and later Florence.

He proudly served in the United States Army as a sargent until his honorable discharge in April of 1964. On Oct. 15, 1966, he was united in marriage to Gloria Janczy in Armstrong Creek, Wis.

He worked for Everett “Jute” Nichols Construction before starting Larry Dzekute General Contracting. Larry spent 34 years on the Town of Fence Board and served for 24 years on the Florence County Board of Supervisors.

He also drove a bus for the Florence School District for 24 years. Larry was the caretaker of the Fence Hillside Cemetery for over 40 years, and what made this special was that the land for the cemetery was donated by his family.

Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Gloria Dzekute; one son, Danny (Teresa) Dzekute of Suamico, Wis.; one daughter, Kristine (Mark Janz) Dzekute of Slinger, Wis.; six grandchildren, Samantha, Faith, Hope, Tyler, Michael, and Courtney; four great-grandchildren, Maci, Noelle, Mark and Charlie; one brother, Robert (Mary Ann) Dzekute, Oak Creek, Wis.; and one sister, Dorothy Wilken, Remington, Indiana.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by one brother, Walter (Joann) Dzekute, and one sister, Bernadette Wojdyla.

Visitation will be Monday, June 28, from 3 until 6 p.m. at the Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home in Florence, Wis.

The VFW Post 3635 of Florence, will provide military honors on Monday, at 5:45 p.m. at the funeral home, followed by the Masonic Lodge Hiram D. Fischer Post 222 along with Masonic Lodge 388 of Iron Mountain-Kingsford providing services.

A Celebration of Larry’s Life will be held Monday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Tim Smith will officiate.
