CRYSTAL FALLS — Michael Hayes of Crystal Falls, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, peacefully passed away at his piece of heaven on earth, his home, surrounded by his loved ones on Saturday, June 26, 2021, on his birthday of 75 years young, after a long battle with cancer.
Michael was born on June 26, 1946, in Iron Mountain, the son of Edward and Lola (Van Sickles) Hayes. He married Darlene (Yunk) Hayes on May 4, 1984. Mike did everything: worked, played and loved hard. His passion was singing songs of his idol, Merle Haggard. He was very passionate about deer hunting, the Green Bay Packers, and his family.
Mike is survived by his wife, Darlene; his beloved daughter, Jodi (Gary) Pearson; son, Kevin Hayes; sisters, Joan (George) Tinti, Dina Hayes, Ginger Remiker, Lola (Joe) Zawada; grandchildren, MacKenzie (Ethan) Metras, Bailey Pearson and Connor Hayes; great-grandchild, Brinley Metras; many nieces and nephews; special sisters-in-law, Cindy (Robert) Ramirez and Heidi (Woodruff) Yunk; and brother-in-law, John Yunk.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: twin brother Pat Hayes, George Hayes, Eddie Hayes, and Colleen (Buddy) Lessor.
Visitation will be 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 3, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Quinnesec Cemetery.
