Rosina Fedrizzi

KINGSFORD — Rosina Marie Fedrizzi, 98, passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at ManorCare Nursing in Kingsford.

Born on July 2, 1922, in Caspian, to Antonio Meneguzzo and Virginia Albiero Meneguzzo, she grew up in Caspian and attended the Caspian School.

Rosina married Walter Fedrizzi on June 21, 1941, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian. They made their home in Caspian in the Fedrizzi, Remondini, Bortolameolli, Meneguzzo neighborhood of relatives on the hill. In 1997 they moved to Brule Lake, then Quinnesec, in 2015.

She was a Rosie the Riveter, working as a riveter in the Detroit area during World War II. She worked alongside her husband to start a new company, La Rozina Foods, using the closed Balducci Supper Club in Gaastra, as their location. She took pride in the quality of their sauce, noodles, ravioli, gnocchi, and cappelletti.

Talented at sewing, knitting, crocheting, and ceramics, she gave her family the many afghans and other projects she made. She was an excellent Italian cook. No one came away from Rosie’s table hungry.

Rose traveled to Italy with her parents and siblings in 1937 to live close to her parents’ family there. When the rumbling of WWII began, the family returned to Caspian to stay. On the return trip she met Jesse Owens, who was returning from the Olympics in Germany.

Most of all, Rose’s family is what mattered to her most. She generously gave her love, hugs, and hospitality to family and friends and was well loved in return.

Rose is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Dale Sr.) Ward of Iron Mountain, and Cathy (William) Ryan of Kissimmee, Fla.; son, Richard Fedrizzi of Iron River; and nieces to whom she was a second mother, Rica (Deward) Beeler and Bonnie (Terry) Lemire; and nephew, Geno (Sandy) Olson. Also her grandchildren, Thomas (Janine) Ward, Kathleen Heinze (Carlos Rosan), Kelly (Jay) Danner, Dale Jr. (Donna) Ward, Brian (Sarah) Fedrizzi, Michael Fedrizzi, Keri (Paul) Richer, and Billy (Nicole) Ryan; great-grandchildren, Joe Forgette (Kelly Boyd), Mia Rose Fedrizzi, Layah Rosina Fedrizzi, Hillari (Corey) Runsat, Tony Ward (Kameron Braden) Liam and Noah Ryan, Ben Heinze (Chelsea), Hope, Gabe, and Luke Richer; great-great-grandchildren, Zach McKinney and Harper Rose Runsat. And she leaves many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

Preceding her in death were husband, Walter on May 23, 2017; beloved brother, John Meneguzzo; sister, Ann Olson; nieces, Debbie Meneguzzo Blazewski and Gayle Olson.

The family is grateful to the staff at Manorcare for their care and kindness for the last 3 1/2 years. Many went beyond duty to make our mother feel safe and loved when Covid prevented us from being with her.

Private family services will be held.

Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery in Iron River.
