Marilyn Jane (Quick) Waite
OSHKOSH, Wis. — Marilyn Jane (Quick) Waite, 89, went to Heaven on July 21, 2021, at Aurora Hospital, due to complications resulting from a fall. Marilyn put up a courageous fight for weeks, but the fall won. She was looking forward to seeing her Lord that she served so willingly all of her life.
Due to COVID, she was limited as to how many family members could be with her at one time, however, the staff at Aurora, allowed around the clock visitation for family and she was never alone. Family is so thankful for the compassion for not only our mom, but also for all of us during this difficult time.
Marilyn was born Jan. 19, 1932, in Beloit, Wis. to Orla and Pearl L. Driscoll. She spent most of her life in Kingsford, where she and her husband, Glenn K. Quick, who preceded her in death, raised their five children. She is survived by three of those children, Vali (David) Kampe of Oshkosh, Gail (David) Poquette of Iron Mountain, and John G. (Rhonda) Quick of Arizona.
She was referred to as “Little Grandma” by her grandchildren, Thomas and Travis Quick; Ben, Andy and Beau Poquette, Kiera Kampe, Teal Polzin, Glenn (Wiley) Willis, and Lincoln Quick. Great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren including baby Willis, who she was anxious to meet in December.
In addition to her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her in-laws, Thomas (Tim) and Lillian Quick, who were like parents to her; a son, Thomas L. Quick; a daughter, Karen L. Quick; husband, Michael Waite; daughter-in-law, Dixie Quick; sister, Roine Porter and brother, Louie Driscoll.
Marilyn was very active in her church, Holy Trinity Episcopal. She sang in the choir for many years, taught Sunday school and was a lay reader and served on the vestry.
She graduated from landscaping school in 1966, and she and husband Glenn Quick, ran Quick’s Landscape Nursery in Kingsford for 28 years.
Along with husband, Michael Waite, Marilyn ran three restaurants in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. They later retired to Florida.
She returned to live in Oshkosh near her daughter after Michael’s death in 2006.
As per Marilyn’s wishes, there will be no funeral.
The family will gather to celebrate her life at a later date when they can all be together.
