Roger Skoglund
NORWAY — Roger Skoglund, 66, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021, at his home with his loving family by his side, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Roger was born in Norway on Jan. 2,1955, to the late John and Rose (Heydens) Skoglund. Roger graduated from Norway High School in 1973. After graduation he went on to technical school in Green Bay. Shortly after technical school, Roger went to work at Lake Shore Systems in Kingsford and Specialty Minerals in Quinnesec, where Roger retired from in 2017.
Roger married Mary Menghini on March 25, 1989, at the First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford. Roger was a loving father and husband and was active in his daughters’ lives. He enjoyed attending the girls three-on-three Gus Macker basketball tournaments, watching them play Norway high school basketball, watching cheerleading competition, skiing competitions and just about any other sport they took part in.
He made sure to take his family on adventurous vacations where so many awesome memories were made, like camping, skiing, and white-water rafting. All the girls moved to Florida. Roger and Mary planned on becoming snowbirds to watch their grandkids grow into young adults.
Roger also loved being in the woods where he spent the early part of his retirement building his dream home, cutting wood, watching wildlife, floating the river, spending time on the porch with friends, neighbors, family … and of course a cocktail.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Mary Skoglund; daughters Roxanne (Keith) Poillion, Heather Hebert, Connie (Mike) Murrison, Kristine (Kervin) Torres; grandchildren Wyatt, Nash, Skylar, Brooklyn, Riley, Max, Trenton, Taylor, Gyanna, Evan; brothers Phil Skoglund, Danny Skoglund and Charlie Skoglund; brother-in-law Paul (Tammy) Menghini; his best buddy and cousin, Bob Skoglund; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Roger was also preceded in death by infant sister, Mary Ann Skoglund; and niece Nicole Skoglund.
A Celebration of Roger’s life will be held on Friday, Sept. 24, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain.
The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to Northwoods Hospice and Dickinson Home Health, especially nurse Kelley, for the care given to Roger.
