Francine Vasko

CRYSTAL FALLS — Francine Anne Vasko was welcomed into God’s kingdom on October 27, 2021, at the Marshfield Medical Center in Weston, Wis., after a brief illness.

Francine was born on Jan. 6, 1948, to Robert J. (USSAR) and Anne Kostuba of Berwyn, Ill. She attended local LaGrange schools and went on to the University of Illinois, where she met her future husband of 52 years, Kenneth Vasko.

Fran and her husband, Kenneth, relocated to the Upper Peninsula, where she made lifelong friends working at Escanaba’s Daily Press before giving up her career and becoming a stay-at-home mom to her adopted children, Jennifer and Jonathon.

She took a very active role in their education and volunteered to assist with an art program at their school, and eventually took a position as an aide with the school system.

Fran also took on the role of Troop Leader for her daughter’s Girl Scout troop as well as Team Mom for her son’s hockey teams. She enjoyed baking and cooking for her family and loved ones.

Fran is survived by her husband of 52 years, Kenneth; and children, Jennifer Vasko of Niagara, Wis., and Jonathan F. Vasko of Petoskey, Mich.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert J. and Anne Kostuba, as well as her sister, Sandra Lee LeMaster.

In accordance with Fran’s wishes, private family services will be held. Burial will take place in Queen of Heaven Cemetery of Hillside, Ill.
