Corlinda ‘Corky’ Newingham

AURORA, Wis. — Corlinda Mary “Corky” Newingham, 101, of Aurora, Wis., passed away on Friday, Dec. 17, 2021, after falling and fracturing her hip at The Bay at Nu Roc Health and Rehabilitation Center in Laona, Wis. She had been a resident there since March, 2021.

Corky was born in Iron Mountain, on Aug. 4, 1920, in the family home on Fifth Street on the northside of Iron Mountain, to Jacob and Julia (Pataconi) Andreoli, immigrants of Pergola, Italy. She was one of eight children and is the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Corky graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1938, being one of the top students in her class. She was the only one in her family to graduate from high school, and she was very proud of that. After high school she worked for the mayor of Iron Mountain at the city offices for a couple of years as his secretary.

She met her future husband, Virgil J. Newingham, at a dance hall on the northside of Iron Mountain. They were married on Aug. 14, 1940, at the courthouse in Iron Mountain. They lived in Dunbar, Wis., Iron Mountain and finally settled in Aurora, in 1952. Virgil preceded her death on Sept. 22, 1981.

Corky resided at Stoneybrook Apartments in Aurora for the last 11 and a half years.

She was a stay at home wife and mother. Corky was a wonderful cook and baker, making the best raviolis, gnocchis, homemade bread, dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls and meat pies, just to mention a few.

Corky was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Aurora, a member of the Women’s Altar Society, one of the Grand Marshals for the Aurora Centennial, and the oldest resident in Aurora.

She enjoyed writing poems, reading, working in the yard, flower gardening, going to the casino and talking on the phone, especially in Italian to her mother in earlier days. She loved the Packers and even attended a game in her 90s. Most of all, she loved all of her grandchildren, and she would light up when they stopped to visit her.

Corky is survived by her son, Dennis (Helga Anderson, significant other) Newingham; daughters, Diane (John) Aune and Dawn (Bob Bock, significant other) Wahlstrom; nine grandchildren, Gina (Troy) Frappier, Lori (Jay) Glime, Michael (Judy) Newingham, Mark (Cathrine Parker) Monosso, Rebecca (Mark) Trulock, Tammy (Terry) Dabb, Dean (Paula) Wahlstrom, David Wahlstrom, Leonard (Megan) Wahlstrom III; great-grandchildren, Jeff (Ashley) Frappier, Jason (Samantha) Frappier, Melissa (Mitch) Grahn, Jule (Katie) Glime, Jordan (Cole) Dollar, Jessica Glime (Nathan), Haley and Brooke Newingham, Mariah (Roger) Reiten, Jordan Monosso, Marquee (Jim) Wahoviak, Jacob (Ashley) Trulock, Hannah Dabb, Jesse, Eann and Emma Wahlstrom, Chloe and Chelsea Wahlstrom, LaVaya Wahlstrom and Haley Gabriel; great-great-grandchildren, Aidan, Raegan, Bowen, Mason, Savanna, Avery, Jaxon, Jace, Stella, Jaxson, Everett, Macy, Mary, and one on the way; former daughter-in-law Sue Newingham; three stepgrandchildren, Raymond (Leslie) Aune, David (Susan) Aune, and Jean (Jim) Rickner; five step-great-grandchildren, Travis, Allison, Hannah, Jacob, and Jenna; many nieces and nephews and dear friends at Stoneybrook Apartments.
