Lawrence J. ‘Joe’ Anderson

KINGSFORD — Lawrence J. “Joe” Anderson of Kingsford, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2022.

He was born on Sept. 28, 1930, in Hancock, the son of Wallace L. and Ethel G. (Stoddart) Anderson. He attended school in Houghton, from grade school through high school.

Joe was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic by trade, and was especially proud of his 57+ years as a member of the Operating Engineers Local 324 Union.

Joe loved hockey and the Detroit Red Wings. He played goalie for the Portage Lake Pioneers in the early 1950s and was blessed to have been able to play competitively into his 70s. Joe loved to be outdoors and especially enjoyed watching all types of wildlife. He also enjoyed keeping busy with some project or another around the house, often having several little improvement jobs going on all at once.

Joe is survived by his son, Scott Anderson (special friend Marilyn Waschbisch) of Green Bay, Wis, and his grandson, Eric Anderson of Appleton, Wis.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son Joseph M. Anderson; daughter, Diane J. Anderson; five brothers; and two sisters.

Memorial contributions in Joe’s name may be made to the family for future designation. Please refrain from sending flowers. Joe’s family would like to thank the staff of Freeman’s Nursing home of Kingsford for the care and assistance they provided for him and his family during his stay there.

Visitation will be on Monday, May 9 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with a brief memorial service to follow at the funeral home. Pastor Walter Reichle will officiate.
