Peter Gidlund

APPLETON, Wis. — Peter James “Pete” Gidlund, 78, of Appleton, Wis., passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2022, at the Caroline Manor in Appleton.

He was born Feb. 1, 1944, in Iron Mountain, to the late Robert and Lois (Beauchamp) Gidlund. He was a 1962 graduate of Kingsford High School.

Following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served as mess sergeant, stationed at Fort Knox, Ky. Pete followed his father’s footsteps as a meat cutter, learning the trade at his parents’ store, Gidlund’s Serve-All Grocery in Kingsford. After moving to the Fox Valley, he worked for Red Owl, Piggly Wiggly and others in the area.

Following retirement he volunteered at the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store in Appleton.

He enjoyed venison processing during hunting season and was an avid fisherman, always on the lookout for “The Whopper!” He truly enjoyed coming home to celebrate his class reunions with his many friends.

He is survived by his son, Jim (Paula) Gidlund and daughter, Jodi Gidlund Siegler and is lovingly remembered as “Papa Giddy” to his grandchildren, Robert, Ryan and Rachel Gidlund and Alexx and Michael Siegler.

He is further survived by his sisters, Gay Ann (Rich) Lawrence of Kingsford, Pam (Ken) Parent of Iron Mountain and Cheryl (Bruce) Kazianka of Kingsford; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; his stepchildren and their children.

Pete was also preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Grantz, the mother of their children; and more recently his wife, Marilyn; grandparents, Pete and Lillie Gidlund of Iron Mountain and Homer and Amanda Beauchamp of Kingsford.

In accordance with Pete’s wishes, no services were held. Burial took place in Ishpeming.
