Dorothy Ann Weecks
DOROTHY AND ELLSWORTH ‘AL’ WEECKS
IRON MOUNTAIN — Dorothy was born on Aug. 1, 1946, in Iron Mountain to the late Robert Massage and Thalia (Anderson) (Massage) Cocking.
Dorothy passed away on July 19, 2020, at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.
She graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1964 and from Bay de Noc with an associate degree in nursing as an LPN.
Dorothy married Ellsworth “Al” Weecks on June 23, 1977. Together they raised one son, Erick; and three daughters, Terri, Sherri, and Kerri.
Dorothy worked as an LPN for many years on the nursing home unit at the VA hospital in Iron Mountain. Despite ongoing health issues, coworkers said she was a hard worker and someone they could always depend on.
She took great pride in caring for veterans, but her greatest achievement was raising her four children and helping care for eight of her grandchildren. She was proud that she was able to be there for the birth of all of her grandchildren, including her first two great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was a very talented artist and created many beautiful acrylic paintings. She also dabbled in woodworking and refinishing furniture. She loved antiques and any way to bring them back to life or repurpose them.
Over the years, she made many beautiful and elaborate home-made birthday cakes and unique Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren. She had a love for horses that went back to her teenage years, riding them for hours on end with friends. She had a love for animals, especially a dog, Fritz, a cat, TC, and a ferret, Lexi. She once formula-fed a litter of abandoned baby bunnies and was able to make them thrive.
Shortly before she passed, she befriended an albino squirrel that she named Pearl. That squirrel stayed close by for months and visited her porch for peanuts, almost daily. Dorothy passed her love of animals onto her children and grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Erick (Jessica) Weecks of Iron Mountain; three daughters, Terri (Bob Jayne) Weecks Lindquist of Iron Mountain, Sherri (Ron) Lindlbauer of Niagara, and Kerri (Warren Stevens) Weecks of Iron River; two aunts, Betsie Benzie and Karen Peronto, both of Iron Mountain; eight grandchildren, Ashley Weecks, Jeremy Lindquist, Tara Ozzello, Alex Ozzello, Kelsey (Skyler) Newman, Kallie Weecks, April Clark, and Isabella Jayne; four great-grandchildren, Ava Weecks, Jayden Nordell, Jesse Snyder, and Ezra Newman; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Massage and Thalia Cocking; a brother, Robert Massage; two grandsons, Matthew Weecks and Kalvin Weecks; a niece, Lynda Massage.
