Janet Marunde

Janet was born Dec. 20, 1941, to Fred and Vesta Pifer, who preceded her in death.

She grew up on a farm outside Union City, Mich. and was a farm girl at heart. Janet graduated from Athens High School in 1960. She played the accordion and piano, often delighting many with a polka now and then.

An avid cook, she would make Christmas candies and cookies for her children, as well as jellies, jams, and various types of pickles. She loved to garden and had a deep love for her pets, often calling them her extended children.

Janet doted with deep love and affection on all her children. She would help out any who needed assistance without expectations and had many people who called her “Mom.”

Janet is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jack D. Marunde; her children, Chrystal (Scott) George, Michael (Phyllis) Wilson, Eric (Missy) Wilson, Mary (Ron) Adams, Jack A. (Jaffa) Marunde, Jeremy (Terri) Marunde, Jennifer (Rob) Barnes; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Harold and Phil; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Vesta; her brothers, Albert and Leon; and nephew, Randy.

Friends may call from 2 to p.m. Central time on Wednesday Sept. 7, at the Allo Coolman Funeral Home in Spalding.

A funeral to celebrate the life of Janet Marunde will follow visitation on Wednesday at the funeral home at 3 p.m. with Pastor Kit Bogan officiating. A celebration of life will be held in Athens, Mich. at a later date.
