Walter L. “Wally” Franz

NIAGARA, Wis. — Walter L. “Wally” Franz, 76, of Niagara, Wis., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2022, at St. Vincent Medical Center in Green Bay, Wis.

He was born Aug. 27, 1946, in Norway, son of the late Walter and Jeanette (Roalandt) Franz. Wally grew up and attended school in Niagara. After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge.

After the military, Wally returned back to Niagara and owned and operated his first bar, “Wunder Inn.” He then owned “One More Time” and lastly owned “Wally’s Wunder Inn” until his retirement.

Wally loved babysitting the dogs, Brady, Turbo, Bucky, Abby, Bristol, and Willow. He spoiled them all rotten with cookies. He also loved to feed all the wild animals that came on his property, usually twice a day. Most of all, Wally loved to spend time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his long-time companion, Mary Charneski; two daughters, Linda (Peter) Ponzio and Jeanie (Dan) Liebergen; one stepson, Willie (Helann) Charneski; four grandchildren, Adam (Leslie) Weber, Matthew Liebergen, Joey Weber and T.J. Liebergen; and by great-grandchildren, Madyson, Ragan, Kenedy, and Jaxon.

In addition to his parents, Wally was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Franz and Raymond Krenn; and one sister, Elizabeth Kinsella.

A celebration of Wally’s life will be held on Friday, Dec. 30, from 1 until 4 p.m. at Bob’s Country Bar.
