NIAGARA, Wis. — James H. Hallgren, 79, of Niagara, Wis., passed away Sunday, March 26, 2023, at his home.

He was born Oct. 16, 1943, in Clintonville, Wis., son of the late Leonard and Leta (Stauffer) Hallgren. James grew up in Niagara and was a graduate of Niagara High School, class of 1962.

After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1967. James married Anne Kaehny on June 21, 1969, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend, Wis. Following marriage, they resided in Niagara where James worked as a maintenance man for SGI for 38 years, retiring in 2008.

James enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, farming, riding his side-by-side, and especially the time spent with his animals, family and friends.

Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Anne Hallgren; three sons, Jeffrey (Anntherse) Hallgren of Renville, Minn., Kenneth (Anne) Hallgren of Kewanee, Wis., and Kurtis (Maggie) Hallgren of Marinette, Wis.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lois Chartier, Niagara and Rita Parrotta (Marvin) of Gladstone; nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Hallgren; sister-in-law, Ginger Hallgren; and two brothers-in-law, John Parrotta and Sam Chartier.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 5, from 11 a.m. until noon at the Jacobs Funeral Home-Niagara Chapel in Niagara.

The memorial service will follow at noon at the funeral home. Pastor Timothy Smith will officiate. Burial will take place in Norway Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dickinson County Cancer Loan Closet or to the American Legion Post 136 of Niagara, in James’ memory.
