Mary Ann Flood

Mary Ann Flood

CRYSTAL FALLS — On March 29, 2023, Mary Ann Flood, 78, received her angel wings and ascended into heaven into the waiting arms of her mom and dad, Bob and Jeana Flood.

Mary Ann was born on March 7, 1945, in Crystal Falls to Robert and Jeana (Pivatto) Flood. Mary Ann lived with her family in their home on Lake Mary until entering the Iron County Medical Care Facility in August of 2020. While at the facility she was dependent upon and cared for by the dedicated nursing staff on Cedar Wing who treated her with kindness and compassion. She passed away surrounded with love and support from her siblings.

As a child, MaryAnn attended the first organized Iron County Special Education classroom that was housed at the WIC schools. As this was her first experience in a classroom setting, she always remembered with delight, her very first teachers, Frank Groeneveld and Charlie Kralovec. As an adult, Mary Ann attended several day programs over the years including TRICO, Family Ties, and Community Ties. It was in these hands-on programs that she thrived and found purpose and accomplishment under the guidance of many wonderful women mentors. In her free time, Mary Ann was always busy making beaded necklaces and coloring pictures that she would proudly share as gifts to her many friends and family. In the evenings, Mary Ann was a Forest Park Trojan sports team supporter and wore her red and black Trojan attire with great pride.

Mary Ann had an incredible memory for remembering people’s names and their birthdates. The biggest day of the year for MaryAnn was not one of the major holidays, but her own birthday where she always enjoyed being the center of a big celebration honoring her special day of the year. She was a very sociable and happy gal who always had a big smile and hug for anyone that she knew.

Mary Ann is survived by three brothers Jim (Jean) Flood of Medford, WI, Bob (Teresa) Flood of Lake Mary, Mark (Mary) Flood of Iron Mountain, and her sister Susan (Gene) Dziubinski of Lake Mary. She is survived by her nieces Kim, Julie, Teresa, Sheila, and Angel and also by her nephews, Brian, David, Adam, Dennis, Justin, Jon, Bob, Thomas (TJ) Mary Ann also leaves behind her devoted companion and caregiver, Allison Soderberg, as well as her hairdresser, friend and confidante Mary “Tillie” Kudwa.

A heartfelt tribute goes out to the unsung hero in MaryAnn’s life, her brother-in-law, Gene Dziubinski. Gene has been MaryAnn’s male support since the passing of her father in 2010. Willingly, Gene became Mary Ann’s personal chauffeur, Packer watching partner, TV cohort, and an abundant supplier of kindness and patience.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents Bob and Jeana Flood, all grandparents, and her dear cousin, Jeanne Arcand.

In this time of sadness, we share this partial quote from the ending of “The Parable Of Immorality” by Henry Van Dyke:

“And just at the moment

when someone at my side says,

There she goes!

there are other eyes watching her coming …

and other voices ready to take up the glad and shout…

Here she comes!”
