Barbara Oliver

Barbara was born Jan. 8, 1934, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Eldon and Emily (Martell) Nelson. She graduated from Kingsford High School in 1953 and married Dale Oliver; he preceded her in death in 1984.

A lifelong resident of the area, Barbara was a clerk for Breitung Township and Dickinson County, a member of 4-H, the Red Hats, Golden K, and American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford and volunteered as a Bluebird and Campfire Girls leader and at the Dickinson County Hospital. She also served on the Pinecrest board, attended the Adoration Chapel, and enjoyed traveling and knitting.

Barbara is survived by a son, Robert Oliver of Howard, Wis; a daughter, Leila (Jim) Canavera of Quinnesec; nine grandchildren Heather (Brian) Rider, Dennis Oliver, Ryan Oliver, Traci Oliver, Paul Oliver, Alicia Canavera (Jim Temrowski) and Jessica (Jason) Lidbeck and Kristopher and Matthew Oliver; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and two daughters-in-law, Joan and Laurie.

Along with her parents and husband Dale, Barbara is preceded in death by an infant son and sons, David Oliver, Douglas Oliver and Gary Oliver, and one great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be held 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with a funeral mass to follow at 11 a.m. at American Martyrs Church in Kingsford. Msgr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial and burial will be in Quinnesec Cemetery.
