Theresa Ann Baumgartner

She was born in Iron Mountain on Aug. 29, 1947, daughter of the late Edwin and Florence Gabrielson.

She was married on Nov. 27, 1976, in Iron River to Jerome Baumgartner. Just last year they celebrated 46 years of marriage.

Theresa served the community from the heart, never desiring any credit. She found joy in helping people. Theresa worked as the Stambaugh Township clerk for 32 years.

She was a devoted PTA activist while her children attended West Iron County schools and for many years after they graduated. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church and faithfully served as church secretary for 23 years, leading up to her health complications.

Theresa loved Jesus and at age 18 placed her faith in Him through a gospel booklet left at a restaurant. She lived out her faith through her selfless service toward others. “Trust & Obey” was one of her favorite hymns. Her kids brought her incredible joy.

From sewing matching dresses for holidays to coordinating pencil sales, making birthdays special with a tea party theme to attending every tennis match, she was there-always there. Her husband describes her as, “Kind-hearted – everybody knew that.”

Survivors include her husband, Jerome; five children, Dennis Olson, Debbie (Tim) Wilkinson, Michelle, Michael and Matthew (Shavonda) Baumgartner; three sisters, Mary Ann Uren, Mae Giesen and Bonnie Hoes-Heindl; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In honor of her wishes for a small memorial, a private family service will be held to celebrate Mother Theresa’s life.

If you would like to give a gift in remembrance of Theresa, a memorial fund will be established at First Baptist Church of Iron River.
