Jeanne Miller

IRON MOUNTAIN — Jeanne Miller, 98, longtime resident of the Iron Mountain/Kingsford area, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Optalis Health and Rehabilitation in Kingsford.

Jeanne was born in Iron Mountain on April 15, 1925, to the late Henry and Azella (Quarnstrom) Barlament. She was a 1943 graduate of Iron Mountain High School where she was the head majorette. During World War II, she attended U.S. Army Air Corp School in Memphis, Tenn., and went on to work for the Defense Department in Detroit where she met her future husband, Robert Miller.

They were married on Christmas Eve of 1944. Together they raised three children and enjoyed 74 wonderful years together before his passing in 2019.

In her early days Jeanne worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iron Mountain. Then in 1962 Bob and Jeanne started their own business, Controls Supply in Kingsford, which they operated for 55 years. Jeanne was a member of the Elks Club. She and Bob also had a love for antique cars, which led them to found the Upper Peninsula Antique Car Club. They especially enjoyed traveling to car shows with their 1934 Packard.

Jeanne traveled extensively, taking trips throughout the U.S., including multiple trips to Hawaii with Bob and the family. When they weren’t traveling in the summers, they were enjoying their children and grandchildren at their cottage on Lake Ellwood. Jeanne was an excellent cook but always appreciated a chance to eat out.

She loved all animals, and at the age of 75 she even gave sled dogging a try! First in her heart, though, was her family, whom she loved dearly. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she attended as many of their events as possible.

Jeanne is survived by her three children, daughter, Chery (Dave) Svetlik of Kronenwetter, Wis., and sons, Dr. Michael Miller of Wayland, Mass. and Mark (Cindy) Miller of Kingsford; grandchildren, Laura Rose Erickson (Gary), John Svetlik, Paul (Amanda) Svetlik, Jesse Quick and step-grandson, Josh Sieg; six great-grandchildren, Wesley Rose (Jamie Lenzner), Mike Rose (Ashley Kizewski), Leanna (Tim) Holzem, Sara Williams, Katie Williams, and Andrew Svetlik; one great-great-grandchild, Abraham Holzem.

In addition to her parents, Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and grandson, David Williams.

A private graveside service will be held at Quinnesec Cemetery at a later date.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jacobs and the staff at Optalis for providing outstanding care for Jeanne.

Condolences may be expressed to the family of Jeanne Miller online at www.ernashfuneralhomes.com.
