KINGSFORD -- Michael "Mick" Bereza, 75, of Kingsford, died at St. Vincent Hospital on March 30, 2023.
He was born in Menominee, on August 9, 1947, son of the late Walter and Helen (Novak) Bereza.
Mick worked at Cencom for over 30 years climbing telephone poles in the early years and retiring as supervisor.
Mick graduated from Wausaukee High School and finished his first semester at UW and then joined the Army. He was proud to serve his country and became a CWO pilot flying helicopters. On one mission Mick's helicopter was shot by enemy fire and he was able to land just before the ship burned with all crew members surviving. His favorite missions were flying injured soldiers to medical units.
He enjoyed attending Corey and Amy's school and college activities and adventures. He adored his grandchildren and liked to hunt, fish, metal detect and play pranks on them. He lived with chronic pain all his adult life. At last he is out of pain and with The Lord.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Coleen of Kingsford; two children, Corey (Mercedes) Bereza and Amy (Todd) Huempfner; grandchildren: Landon, Levi, Mahri, Chase, Parker, Payton, Esme, Ethyn and Josh; sister, Pat (Bob) Bastian, special family friend, Nancy Anderson; and numerous extended family and friends.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 10 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Wausaukee, Wis. at 11 a.m. with Father David Schmidt officiating. Visitation will also be Sat. from 10 to 11 a.m. at church. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park, Cedar Ave, with full military honors provided by the Pembine American Legion Post 461.
