PORT WASHINGTON, Wis. — James E. “Jim” Conery, of Port Washington, formerly of Iron Mountain, passed away surrounded by his loving family in the evening hours of Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Forest Haven Assisted Living in Fredonia, Wis. He was 87 years old.
Jim was born in Iron Mountain on Dec. 3, 1935, son of Albert and Ruby (King) Conery. He grew up in Iron Mountain and graduated from Iron Mountain High School with the Class of 1954.
After high school, Jim moved to Milwaukee, where he enjoyed a long, 40-plus year career as a machinist at Falk Corp. in Milwaukee. He also worked as a part-time truck driver for the Grober family (EKG) for more than 60 years and felt they were more like family than employers.
On Oct. 30, 1998, he married Peg Lade (Stratton) in Milwaukee.
Jim was a member of St. Francis Borgia Parish in Cedarburg, Wis. He enjoyed skiing, golfing, and was an avid reader.
Jim is survived by his wife, Peg Lade; children, Lori (Mike) Pohl and Gary Conery; and his stepdaughter, Erin (Rob) Weileder. He is further survived by five grandchildren, Andy, Erich, Joe, Aidan and Noah; five great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Kay Conery; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many close friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ruby; three brothers, Albert, Morris and Mike Conery; and two sisters, Bev Chartier and Rita Hicks.
A visitation for friends and family will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the Eernisse Funeral Home: 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington, WI. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Jim will be laid to rest at St. Francis Borgia Cemetery in Mequon, Wis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight.
