IRON MOUNTAIN -- Khin MaLay Shein (Betty), 93, of Iron Mountain, passed away in her sleep on Friday Aug. 18, 2023, at her home.
Betty was born Aug. 8, 1930, in Myanmar, daughter to Dr. G and Daw (Kyaing) Dass.
Betty received her master's degree at the University of London and went on to be a Geography Professor and Chairman of the Department of Geography at the University of Yangon, Myanmar.
She was deeply religious and practiced her faith throughout her daily life. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and her pets.
She is survived by her husband, Maung Shein; son, Tint (Cheryl) Shein; daughter, Dr. Nilar Shein; special dog, Louie P.; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. G. Dass and Daw Kyaing; four brothers; and three sisters.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A private ceremony will be held.
