IRON MOUNTAIN — Dudley E. Brown, 92, of Iron Mountain died Sept. 3, 2023, in Norway.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Hersh); two sisters, Marcia (Chuck) Raches and Barbara (Bob) Brandel; children Jean (Timothy) Theisen, James Brown, Judy (Rob) Brown-Norman; six grandchildren, Stefanie (James) Snow, Lauren (Matthew) Robinson, Chad Ketchum, Christofer Theisen, Trevor Brown, Cady Norman; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Dudley was born Nov. 4, 1930, in Chicago to the late Louise (Eisele) and Douglas Brown of Iron Mountain. He moved to Iron Mountain in 1937 with his parents and two sisters. He attended Iron Mountain Schools until 1944 when his parents moved to Detroit, where he graduated from Cooley High School in 1949. He attended Ferris State University for a year before transferring to R.E.T.S. electronic school. After graduation, he was drafted and served as a corporal in the army Signal Corps as a radar tech and operator during the Korean War.
Dudley married Barbara Hersh of Plymouth, on Oct. 12, 1956. After the war, he went to work at RCA for 35 years. After growing up at his grandfather, George Eisele’s cottage on West Lake and his other grandfather, E.F. Brown on Long Lake, he purchased his own family cottage in 1982 on Railroad Lake in Spread Eagle, Wis. The couple moved back to Iron Mountain in 1987. He loved water skiing in the summer and downhill skiing in the winter with his children and grandchildren and spending time with his great-grandchildren.
Dudley was an active member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church of Iron Mountain, serving on the vestry and the Ministry Support Team. In 1991 he volunteered on the work team at the Crystal Theater in Crystal Falls to install the big Moler pipe organ and helped maintain it for years. He was also a member of the Civil Air Patrol and loved operating his HAM radio.
