Euren H. Skogman

REPUBLIC, Mich. — Euren H. Skogman, 94, lifetime Republic resident, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2023, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming while under the loving care of family, Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice, and the staff at MCMFC.

Euren was born in Republic on June 23, 1929, a son of the late Axel Theodore and Sanna E. (Risku) Skogman. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1952. Euren worked as a maintenance mechanic for Hanna Mining Company at the Groveland Mine in Felch.

Euren had numerous hobbies, some of which included taxidermy, bowling, golfing, throwing horseshoes, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed living on his farm, where he tended to his farm animals and did all that small farming entailed. He had a portable sawmill where he cut lumber for numerous customers.

Many in the area would bring their deer harvest to him for his butchering talents. He was a master of many trades. He always had time for family and friends and welcomed all who came to visit. He was a long-time member of the Bethany Lutheran Church of Republic.

Euren is survived by six children, Karen Bissett, Kerwin Skogman (Susan), Kathleen Wolfe, Kevin (Julie) Skogman, Karolyn Jensen (Thomas) and Kristen (Marvin) Erickson; grandchildren, Jonathan (Mallory) Bissett, Joseph Skogman, Meredith Jordan, Martin (Deidra) Lyyski, Michael (Kayla) Jensen, Jacob Erickson and Katie (Kevin) Lehto; great-grandchildren, Amias, Emmeline, Isabella, Evan, Owen, Zachary, Alana, Owen, Leia, Oliver, and Melody; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Euren was preceded in death by his parents; sons-in-law, John Bissett, Michael Wolfe, Michael Jensen; grandsons, Jameson Bissett and Travis Skogman; granddaughter, Kylie Skogman; four sisters, Elvie Johnson, Edith Pearce, Elsie Storlahls and Ethel Valenzio; six brothers, Edgar, Elhart, Edmund, Elwood, Ernest, and Elmer Skogman.

Euren’s family will greet relatives and friends from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., with Rev. Alex Ross to officiate.

Interment will take place at the Republic Township Cemetery at a later date.
