WRIGHTSTOWN, Wis. — Ronald Grant Erickson, 87, died peacefully on Sept. 1, 2023, at his son’s home in Wrightstown, surrounded by Dean and his wife.
He was born Feb 1, 1936, in Iron Mountain, son of Eric and Elva Erickson of Iron Mountain. Ronald graduated from Iron Mountain High School and began work as a mechanic for Kingsford Motor.
On Oct. 1, 1959, he married the love of his life, JoAnn Smith. They then moved to Rockford, Ill., where Ron worked as a mechanic at Carlise Motors, specializing in auto air conditioning and automatic transmissions.
In 1970 he moved back to Iron Mountain, where he started Erickson Auto Service on the north side of town. In 1978 he bought a building in Kingsford at 120 Parkway where he maintained his business until 1990.
In 1988 he and his wife purchased the Spread Eagle Golf Course in Spread Eagle, Wis., and ran it until 2015. He retired to his Florida residence with his wife JoAnn. He was also an avid model airplane enthusiast as well as a private pilot.
He enjoyed traveling the U.S. in his airplane with his wife and standard poodles. He also enjoyed antique cars with a special attachment to older Cadillacs.
Ronald is survived by his son, Dean (Leslye) Erickson of Wrightstown, Wis.; and several grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Erickson; and son, Bradd Smith Erickson.
A visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Oct. 1 at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Services will follow Sunday at noon at the funeral home.
