John W. Sullivan

He was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Feb. 16, 1931, son of the late John and Helen (DeGraw) Sullivan. John graduated from Nashville High School in 1949. Shortly after graduation he enlisted with the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War.

John was discharged back to Grand Rapids where he took a position with Michigan Bell Telephone Company. In 1968, John moved to the U.P. and after 35 years of employment, he retired in 1989.

In his early years he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting as well. He was proud of his Irish heritage and made sure that he was able to travel to Ireland. He was also a member of Oak Crest Country Club, never missing a chance to get out on the course. He was a lifelong member of the VFW.

John will be missed by his sons, John Sullivan Jr. and Michael Sullivan.

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Murphy and Mary Sullivan.

Per John’s wishes, no services will be held.
