IRON MOUNTAIN — Blanche Joanne Schettler, 97, of Iron Mountain went to be with her Lord and Savior on Nov. 17, 2023.
She was born Jan. 22, 1926, to Edward and Freda (Carlson) Hicks, and raised on the family farm in Breitung Township. Blanche attended Breitung Township Schools and was a member of the National Honor Society, Photo Club and Musical Kadets, before graduating third in her class from Kingsford High School in 1943. On June 5, 1948, she married Raymond Carl Schettler at the former Immanuel Baptist Church in Iron Mountain; he preceded her in death on May 6, 1981.
Blanche’s first full-time job was as secretary to the principal at KHS. In later years, she worked as secretary and accounts receivable bookkeeper for the Dworsky brothers at the Men’s Store, later known as Colenso’s. She loved animals and had many pets through the years. She also loved music and singing, reading and doing crossword puzzles. She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church for most of her life, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and worked with the Awana Club. She also belonged to the Women’s Missionary Guild, Homebuilders, Christian Fellowship and Christian Women’s Club.
Blanche is survived by her three children, Jack (Chris) Schettler, Beverly (Philip) Zollner and Patty (Dave) Johnson; three grandchildren, Jeff (Jeni) Schettler, Stacy Schettler and Heather Anderson; five great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Brooklyn, Ashlyn, Lelan Schettler and Paisley Anderson; sister-in-law, Violet Schettler; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Blanche is preceded in death by an infant sister, Doris, and several aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 120 O’Dill Drive in Norway, on Monday, Nov. 27, with Rev. Jim Danielson officiating the funeral service at noon.
Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
