Janet Louise Haber
KINGSFORD — Janet Louise Haber, 91, passed away Sunday, Nov. 26, in the Memory Care Unit at Evergreen Senior Living in Kingsford.
Janet was born Nov. 7, 1932, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Harvey and Mildred (Lewis) Franklin. After graduating from Bay View High School in Milwaukee, she attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Janet graduated in 1954 with a degree in Fine Arts and was a Life member of Kappa Alpha Theta.
After raising two children Janet returned to school and received her Master’s Degree in Education from Rockford College. She taught children with learning disabilities at a private school in East Dundee, Ill. until her retirement.
Janet met her husband, James E. Haber, at Miami University where they both attended college. They were married in 1955 in Milwaukee. During their 59 years together Jim and Janet made their homes throughout the Midwest, finally retiring and settling in northern Wisconsin in 1984. They enjoyed family, friends, fishing, canoeing, cross country skiing, biking, and taking long walks together during their time on Papoose Lake, in Manitowish Waters, Wis. Janet also enjoyed playing cribbage and watching the Packers with her good friend Arlene.
Janet is preceded in death by her husband, James in 2014; her parents; and a sister, Mary Barber.
Janet is survived by a son, Eric (Rhonda), from Kingsford; daughter, Gretchen, from Elgin, Ill.; grandchildren, David (Heather) Malecek, from Elgin, Christopher Haber, Zachary (Emily) Haber, from Iron Mountain, Collin (Erin) Wangerin, from Grand Rapids, and Rachelle (Jesse) Johnson, from Cudahay, Wis.; great-grandchildren, Oliver, Josephine and Gustav Malecek, from Elgin, and Aubrey, James E. II, Cecelia Louise and (soon to be) Adalynn Haber, from Iron Mountain; and niece, Lynn (Henry) Gruen, from North Carolina.
Janet’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Evergreen Senior Living, and especially to the Evergreen Memory Care staff and to care givers from OSF Hospice. The care and compassion they provided will always be remembered.
A private family memorial will take place at a later date.
