John Michael Semler

Born on Aug. 27, 1949, in Aitkin, Minn., John was the son of Ellsworth and Rodora (Baker) Semler. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School, Class of 1967, and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan Tech University in 1973 and then his master’s in business administration from the Florida Institute of Technology in 1982.

John went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army for 20 years, from 1973 until he retired in 1993. John had earned himself the rank of Major while serving.

On Sept. 5, 1970, John married Janet Sgarlotti in Iron Mountain and they shared 53 wonderful years together.

John enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, and golfing. He was a member of the Wellston Winter Trails Snowmobile Club.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Janet; daughter, Deanna; grandsons, Daniel and Alexander Landis; sister, Debbie (Larry Strauss) Robert; brother, Daniel (Linda) Semler; and many other family and friends.

John was preceded in death by his father, Ellsworth, and his mother, Rodora.
