IRON MOUNTAIN — Miyoko Shimizu Hockett, 90, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023, at Optalis Health & Rehabilitation of Kingsford.
She was born on June 22, 1933, in Tokyo, Japan. Miyoko met and fell in love with Jerry Hockett while he was stationed in Japan with the U.S. Army, and they were later married in Washington before settling in Iron Mountain.
Jerry passed away at an early age due to an unfortunate hunting accident. Despite her devastating loss, Miyoko continued to make a life for herself in Iron Mountain. She loved taking rides into town with her “American son.” Miyoko also enjoyed word search puzzles and watching the Packers. She was a sweet lady, and her kindness will be missed.
Miyoko is survived by her “American family,” including her son, Dana (Linda) Peterson; grandson, Dillon Peterson (fiancée, Cally Donahue); and great-grandson, Everett Andrew Peterson.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; and her parents.
Per Miyoko’s wishes, no services will be held.
