IRON MOUNTAIN -- Robert W. Gingrass, 74, of Iron Mountain passed away on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson in Iron Mountain.
Bob was born March 18, 1949, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Jack and Betty (Jenkins) Gingrass. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1967 and was a lifelong resident of the area. Bob married Peggy Bandt in 1979. Bob was a member of Michigan Laborers Union Local 1329 and later Plumbers and Pipefitters UA Local 111, working for Carlson & Goulette Plumbing and Heating for many years before retirement.
Bob was a member of the Elks Club, where he volunteered his time and was voted Elk of the Year. In his earlier years he was an exceptional pool player and enjoyed playing softball. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing cards and going to camp. He was well-known in the neighborhood and took pride tending to his yard and walking his dog, Harley.
After receiving a kidney from a donor in 2007, Bob was a strong advocate for organ donation. His biggest joy in life came from spending time with his family. He was a beloved brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He was resilient and strong, with a unique ability to have a positive attitude and keep his sense of humor no matter the hardships he faced.
Bob is survived by his wife, Peggy; his two daughters, Alexis (Tony) Vicenzi of Iron Mountain and Jennifer (Brett) Nepper of Milwaukee; six grandchildren, Ethan, Evan, Tessa, Harper, Quinn and Oliver; a brother, Jack (Sue) Gingrass of Iron Mountain; a sister, Mary (Ray) Henderson of Florida; a brother-in-law, Dan Wallner; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shari Wallner; his mother and father-in-law, Margaret and Robert Bandt Sr.; a brother-in-law, Robert Bandt Jr.; and a nephew, David Bandt.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday at First Global Methodist Church: 106 4th Street in Iron Mountain, with a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. at the church. Pastor Walter Reichle will officiate.
